Changes to the Ontario Business Registry


The Ministry of Ontario has launched its new Online – Ontario Business Registry which opened October 19th.  The new registry will offer a variety of services including registering a new business and dissolving an existing one.  The online service is available 24/7 providing immediate electronic transactions as opposed to mail or fax.

Of importance to note, included with this new launch are changes to the Annual Ontario filing requirements.  In the past the annual filing was e-filed along with the T2 Corporate tax filing and processed by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).  As of May 15th, the CRA has stopped processing the Ontario Annual return.   Any returns due between May 15, 2021, and October 18, 2021, received a one-time exemption from filing.   As of October 19th, the Annual Ontario filing must be done either through the new online registry or by mail.

Unfortunately, at this time the Ministry has not made available access for intermediaries such as law or accounting firms.
